Artmedia News
==================================================

Welcome to the April 2004 edition of the Artmedia physical
theatre newsletter, a publication with an Australasian focus
and a global perspective.

You are receiving this because you are on the Yahoo Artmedia
Physical Theatre News list, and we are happy to report that
subscribers are continuing to sign up as they realize this is now
the only way to get the newsletter. Again we urge you to check
with you friends to see if they have signed up, as this word of
mouth is the best way to keep the community connected. If not
they can re-subscribe on the artmedia site.

We welcome the 4th International Mime and Physical Theater
Festival of the Caribbean as sponsor this month. Polimnia
Physical Theater, directed by choreographer Ivan Olmo, is
organizing the festival, to be held from May 14 to 16 in Puerto
Rico. They are also 'planning the selection for the 5th Festival
for 2005, and we are looking for new, fresh and talented artists'.

In Playspace news, the earlybird deadline on the 5 week Sydney
clown school is coming up in a couple of weeks, in early May,
so contact me if you want to get the best deal on this course.
I am off to New Zealand for a couple of months, so the 3 day
clown masterclass which was to take place in May, has now
been moved to October.

In the Features this month we welcome Jango Edwards, ( my
first clown teacher, at a workshop in Stockholm in 1977 ), with
information on his 10th Annual Clown Master Class in Cannes,
France. Go Jango! This 'Clown Theory Master Class' will take
place at the 'Performance d?Acteur Festival', in Cannes, France,
in June.

In the networking, Critical Path, the Choreographers Association
in Sydney, seeks a Director, the Korn Patch Klowns announce
the North Central COAI Regional Conference in the USA, and
interest is sought for BuskerFest, Toronto's Street Performer's
Festival in Canada.

Our problems in Australia with the conservative government,
is brought home this month by a post from 'Clowns without
Borders' in Sweden, who, after their last expedition to the
Bhutanese refugee camps in Nepal, are now seeking
collaborators for an Australian Refugee Detention Centre
project.

We also have information on an Intensive with DAH Theatre
Research in Serbia and Montenegro, some news on Forced
Entertainment, described as 'brilliant experimental theatre'
from Britain.

And we have a bit of a clown theme, as we often do, with
information on an interesting clown training program in Italy,
'In Search of Clown', at the School of Theatre Creation in Padua.
Those who were following the Clown Debate in this newsletter
last year will be interested in this course description.

In the Noticeboard, Reg Bolton is researching 'Perceptions of
Circus', and looking for help with references to circus and clowns
in pop songs, while 'London Toast Theatre', an English speaking
theatre company from Copenhagen in Denmark, is seeking an
Australian tour.

We aim to provide an avenue of communication for the growing
physical theatre community, so please send us information for
inclusion in this newsletter. Please also forward this to
somebody else who may be interested.
